Hello form Pennsylvania. Yes I did eat the deep fried clams and the shrimp and the noodles but the broccoli didn't make the cut. And yeah the humidity makes everything worse, in Arizona you can actually breath when its hot out. Out here it feels like I got a washcloth over my face all the time and it tends to get annoying. Yeah I know its cane syrup but its good stuff that's only found in Canada as far as I know. They're only me and my comp in out apartment but there are 2 other apartments in a half hour radius. No I didn't get sick from the package however I almost got sick when we went out to eat at Red Robin after district meeting with the other missionaries. We sat down and ordered what we wanted and told the server to bring us out some fries and our drinks I got a root beer float which was delicious but they are also bottomless. At the end of dinner I looked at the receipt cuz for some reason mine had the refills of fries on it and it said we had 13 baskets of fries brought to us and I think in total counting the 3 floats I drank there were about 12 floats brought to us. All of us kinda left feeling crappy but when you only get 135 a month you tend to want to get your moneys worth out of dinner and I did for 12 bucks the lady working there was very impressed with how much we ate. I got a pic of it but I still don't have enough to justify putting it on a cd yet so I'm slowly working on it.
Well this week the zone leaders wanted to do splits with my companion because he's the district leader so they took him to the area and for some reason thought it would be a good idea for the new guy to run the area. I had no clue what I was going to do I didn't know where to go and since we didn't have any solid investigators we really didn't have anyone to see. So as the normal missionary routine we went out tracting. It was kinda funny because the zone leader I had was from Guatemala and spoke fluent spanish and ok english but the first people we see speak nothing but spanish so he talked to them and got us the info to go see them. In my 3 weeks of being in the area I hadn't run into a single spanish person but on the exchange with elder Vallejo we talked to 3 spanish families. So I was glad he was with me. We also tried to see the older lady that I had given the BOM to but she kinda avoided us I think she got antied or something of that nature. But in doing so we decided to tract around the area and there again as it seams to always happen at the last door we did that night I knocked on Patricks door. He was a 25 year old bull dogger who had friends in the church who was a religious searcher as he called himself he didn't believe that there was only one way to get to heaven. So I started talking to him about rodeo for about 20 min and started talking about religion. He said that a sister in our ward had a kid who he was friends with and she always tried to teach him but from the questions he was asking me she hadn't really succeeded. It was a good conversation that lasted a good hour and a half. It seemed every time we tried to stop the convo cuz it was past 9 he had another question. Finally he started walking with us back to our car and continued talking to us when we got to the car we talked for about another 10 min and finally we both decided that we had to go. He gave us his number and we had his address so I'm excited to go back and see him I think he will be a great person to teach he is very receptive and enjoyed the conversations with us.
Not much else happened this week except for when me and my regular companion were out tracting he started teaching this one lady who came to the door who wasn't really that interested and had some stuff to do. I thought we were just going to leave when he says before you go me and my companion really feel the spirit when we sing could we sing you a song. She was almost as shocked as me and said yeah sure just make it quick so me and Elder Gowdy start singing I Am A Child of God and actually we sounded pretty good I think the good lord was with us ha. But after she kinda got quiet thanked us and left as we were walking away we were both laughing and I was freaking out at my comp because I aint really a good singer but it was kinda cool how it all worked out and I think she might look more into the website on the card we gave her now.
Oh and I guess I should add that its been raining here this whole week and its starting to get a little annoying.
But I hope everyone is doing well and that I'll be able to hear from you soon until next week goodbye.
Sincerely
Elder Kartchner
