Kayden played on the F.P. Walshe rugby team from Fort Macleod.  Monte and I had the opportunity to cheer him on at his final few games.  He does really well...he's a forward which is opposite of football...It is more his job to get the guy with the ball or try to steal it.

Here are a few pics from a few of his games.
I can't say I totally understand the rules but after watching I was able to pick up on the general idea.

This is how they throw the ball in from the side line.  Kayden is a "lifter"...I feel sorry for those being lifted for obvious reasons.

I believe this is called a knock on...a lot of hard work trying to get the ball.

Sorry for the blur.  It's hard to watch the game and get pics.

When you get tackled you try to get the ball to the ground and behind you so the other team can't get it unless they push over top of you (knock on).  One of your team mates grabs the ball and either runs with it or passes it to a member of the team.

This is what it looks like after a knock on...notice the guy on the ground in the fetal position trying to protect his head. Thankfully the Flyers got the ball and are passing it off.

Kayden threw one guy down beat him off the ground and is now eyeing the guy with the ball.

This is a "Scrum" and are a ton of work.  The team awarded the ball possession rolls the ball in between the two teams as they try to push over the ball and with their feet work it to the back of the scrum so their team can pick it up.  The ref (or whatever he's called in this sport) calls out 3 commands.  I can't remember the first one something like "down" in football.
(the next 2 pics are out of order I can't get them to move)
second is touch which you can see in the 3rd pic...they reach up touch the other guy then get ready for
command three Engage

Here's the "engage"...that's Kayden with the white underarmor

This is the "touch"

Their pre game "intimidation" cheer.  They're in a huttle chanting something then beat themselves like tarzan from their toes to their heads...ending with some sort of grunt.  This pic is the grunt.

The "Flyers" made it to provincials and played for the bronze.  It was a hard game.  They played for 60 minutes.  Half time is short maybe 5 minutes.  They ended up winning by 5 points one try.  They worked hard for their bronze.

Getting his metal.

The team!!!

Kayden and His buddy Jaden...Kayden stopped them from scoring and Jaden saved the day by getting the final try.

Job well Done!!!! So glad we were there.
