We spent our second day in San Francisco on bikes touring around the north west part of the city. We were at the bike rentals as soon as it opened which worked out great.
Our first stop was the Golden Gate Bridge then down into a Sausalito a cute ocean side town.
The roads and paths through San Francisco are beautiful.
Thousands of tourists rent bikes daily and ride across the bridge into Sausalito. It is only a mile or so down into Sausalito…most people spend time walking around then take the ferry back to San Francisco. Monte and I wanted to ride back across the Golden Gate Bridge then down to Golden Gate Park. The hill was a little intimidating but not nearly as scary as we thought it was going to be when we were coasting down.
We arrived early…before the "thousands" of other tourists. We parked our bikes and wandered around. Knowing we had a lot of biking left we found this delicious cafe for "brunch" to give us strength to peddle back up to the Golden Gate Bridge.
We shared this delicious grilled veggie sandwich.
Headed back across the bridge. Unfortunately the foot traffic on the bridge was crazy busy but it was fun to ride on the iconic bridge.
Golden Gate Bridge behind us. We're trying to work our way to Golden Gate Park … the hills were crazy.
The Pacific ocean at Ocean Beach across from the Park. San Francisco is not known for warmth and sunshine. It didn't get above 70 the whole time we were there which was perfect for biking. The beach is more for watching surfers and bonfires.
Unfortunately we were getting a little tired and hungry by the time we made it to the park…my left ITband gave up about this point…it had climbed too many hills. We saw some beautiful spots but the park is so large you could spend days trying to see everything.
Working our way back to the Fishermans Warf.
After 7 hours on the bike and a long time since brunch we treated ourselves.
One street North of China Town it turns to North Beach (no beach in site) that is Little Italy. After walking the day before to Coit tower and seeing the delicious Italian restaurants we decided that was what we wanted for supper.
Our eatery was across from Washington Square…a public park where people come to play and walk their dogs.
Lasagna!
Squash stuffed ravioli Decicious!
Bakery across the way where we picked up desert.
Finished the day people watching at Pier 39.
