stuck

A month or so ago we had a swarm of repair dudes at the house fixing things, it was our one year repair session. We had a creak in the landing on our stairs so a couple guys pulled back the carpet, cut a hole in the floor and decided they needed to get under the stairs to fix the problem. They decided the best way to enter was by cutting a hole in the living room wall, not to worry a mudder and painter were going to come and repair the damage. After the hole was cut and the creak fixed the creak fixer said, "there is a lot of room down here, too bad they closed it in". The light bulb went off in my head and the wheels started turning. Knowing it would be a perfect place to store things like Christmas trees and dry pack canning I proceeded to explain to Monte, the ample amount of unused space hidden beneath out stairs. (the hole was covered and mudded before Monte got home from work) I was smart enough to look under the stairs and assess the situation, no wires were running on the wall that was in the laundry room, perfect place to make a small door to access our new found storage space. Yesterday Monte decided to cut a small hole in the wall in the laundry room and see if what I knew to be true was really true. He got the hole cut and managed to worm his way in. Luckily for me Monte thought it had better possibilities then he imagined. The "Pulte Crew" knew that area was getting closed in so they didn't clean up under there. There was scrap pieces of drywall, what I hope is blown in insulation laying around and someones paper plate from the taco truck. Monte measured for supplies and cleaned up then attempted to get out. Knowing he went in that way, because I saw him with my own eyes, I assumed he could get back out. He couldn't even get his shoulders out the hole let alone the rest of him. Poor Monte stuck behind the wall under the stairs, luckily I was on the other side of the wall and was able to hand over the knife and with a level draw a straight/plum (not sure if this is the right kind of plum for this situation) lines so we could enlarge the hole. We couldn't have the hole cut all willie nillie. Monte tried to follow my nice straight lines but was getting slightly claustrophobic, panicked or was just struggling with the awkwardness of trying to cut himself out of the wall that it became necessary to enlisted Kayden and come help remove his father from "his cupboard under the stairs". All is well. We have Monte on the outside of the wall and a list of supplies necessary to turn our dingy, dirty under the stairs goldmine into perfect storage spot for large awkward seldom used items.

This is great! It was the perfect chuckle to start my morning. Hope the cubbie making goes well.

That was a tiny lil' hole. Glad you finally made it out OK Monte. I was getting claustrophobic just looking at the pictures.

Gotta laugh at Kayden, couldn't get him to wear a toque when he's in Canada, so goes to Arizona and starts wearing one while still in the house.
