Well another week has come and gone and its weird to think that in 3 days I’ll be done 1/8 of my mission. It’s almost been 3 months since I left AZ and entered the MTC and started the mission.
This has been an interesting week. We were able to get 3 investigators to come to church this week so that was a big moral booster to the way things have been going. So on Sunday we were able to get Leon and 2 of his 3 kids to come to church it was nice we left our PEC meeting 15 minutes early and drove to his house so that he could follow us over to the church. We got to church just as the opening hymn was ending so we got a seat near the back. The first talk was by the Relief Society stake president who talked on making a marriage a celestial marriage that would last for all eternity. I thought it was good how the talk was on families and Leon loved his family. The next talk was given by a deacon on prophets. Obviously he hadn’t prepared anything as he stood up gave a 2 second story on how he had lost his retainer and prayed to find it. He didn’t find it but a new one was apparently free for some reason so his prayers were answered in a different way and he said that the prophets say to pray so we should follow them and sat down I kinda laughed wishing I was that good at just winging it ha. But after we had another talk on following the prophets by an actual adult who read experts of conference talks and their teachings I thought it was good and Leon didn’t show any concern he just kept staring up at the speaker with intent. After sacrament meeting he was greeted by probably 12 people so about half a Pennsylvanian ward out here which was nice.
Our gospel doctrine class was on developing talents, which we found out about 2 minutes before class that we were teaching it. It went well Leon asked questions and participated. During class he said that he basically had the same beliefs he was only at the church to see if we were the kind of people that he wanted to go to church with so I hoped no one would do anything stupid. And then of course we went to elders quorum and the lesson is the spirit world. I was about ready to die during the whole class I was just thinking well we got him to church and now we freak him out because we haven’t taught him this yet, well it was a good run I guess but we'll have to go back to the drawing board. After church Leon said he had to go feed his kids so he left soon after. Elder Stewart and I were both kinda freakin out wondering what we were going to do scared that he was going to stop coming. We called him at about 5 wanting to see what he thought but got no answer so we were a little worried but during studies at 8 last night he called us and talked to elder Stewart for 50 mins saying that he liked church that he told his wife to quite her job so she could go with him next week and that he had been talking to his mom about the spirit world that day. He also said that he liked how we called to see how he was doing and that we checked up on him he said that usually preachers and ministers just let ya be. He like the contact after church and through the week. After hearing all this I was a little shocked to say the least it was weird going from being worried to death to relieved in the matter of an hour. I have a good belief that he will be baptized soon and that he and his family will be strong members.
Well I must go but I have one more little thing to add this week we got a couple of new couches and it kinda reminded me of when we got the ones for brad at college. We drove by them and noticed a free sign on them so we pulled over and looked at them they were nice so we went to get the Reyes and their suburban thingy before someone else got them I was wishing dad was around so that he could have laid on them making sure that everyone knew they were taken while we were away ha. But I hope everything is going well and I’ll talk to you soon.
