Elder Kartchner ---- Bonus

Dear Parents of our Elders,

We are so grateful to be senior missionaries serving in the same district with your fine sons.  It has been a great blessing in our lives.  We have grown to love them so much and appreciate learning from them. We are so grateful for their training and their testimonies.  We feel so blessed to be their "fill-in" grandparents.

Last night we had a Christmas party with them.  It was really fun.  I made lasagna, salad, French bread and peas for the main course.  We had a Hillshire Farm Christmas sausage and a variety of cheeses with crackers and mandarin oranges for the appetizers.  Then for dessert we had brownies, cherry cream cheese pie, Utz chocolate covered pretzels and Danish butter cookies.  I didn't get any pictures of the food or while they were eating.

Elder Kartchner is a Canadian living in Arizona.  I guess they have lemons in season at Christmas time.  He brought a neat family tradition that we all enjoyed.  They each squeezed a lemon for about 15 minutes until the insides were broken up and really juicy.  Then the top was cut off and a piece of a big round peppermint stick was inserted into the lemon.  It is porous and the lemon juice can be sucked through the peppermint stick like a straw and you have peppermint flavored lemon juice.

Elder Kenley has presented a "Kenley Moment" at our district meetings.  He has been a Seminary and Institute teacher for 37 years and they have loved to "pick his brain."  Anyway, we compiled a year's worth of the "Kenley Moments" and put them in binders for their Christmas presents.  I think they were happy with them.

We took some pictures of the evening and I would like to share them with you.  We love your sons and are so happy to be here.

What a nice bonus of your missionary. It sounds like he will enjoy the Christmas season. Have a great time skyping with Karson.
