Pennsylvania Report

It has been so rewarding for us to receive Elder Kartchner's letters each week. We love to see him grow in the gospel as well as in life.

As a family we've made it back alive but mosquito bitten from Wasa...when I get back to AZ I'll be sure to post some photos of our adventures.

Enjoy Elder Kartchner's letter...we always do.

Hello from Pennsylvania.

I have been out for over a month now and it feels like a week. But were enjoying life here in this overly hot and humid state. As you requested I’ll tell ya a bit more about Elder Gowdy. He’s from Utah like every other missionary in our district right now except for me and the other new guy that came in. Elder Gowdy is a pretty cool guy he’s been out for about a year and a half and heads home in December some time so he’s getting to be an old missionary. We’ve been doing a lot of tracting in the car and on foot but on Tuesday I went on exchanges with a missionary who was out of miles on their car so we got to ride bikes. Of course we are in a state that has no flat land its all continuous hills. The temperature was about 100 out and the humidity was about enough to drownd ya. I lost about 6 pounds in that little adventure.

I have a CD of pics that im going to send to Arizona when I get the time to find the post office and ship it off so that should be coming soon. I’m glad that dad received the letter I sent him before he went off to Canada.

Its kinda funny how dad was going to get my prescription filled I almost couldn’t get it because it said that someone in Phoenix had filled it that same day so we must have been doing it about the same time. But they overpowered dad and I got it.

The work here is hard at times everyone has a church and no one wants to change because its the church their parents went to and they like the preacher or something like that so they just say their not interested but they like what were doing and they wish us luck. It becomes somewhat frustrating because people are being so stubborn but every once in a while we bump into someone looking for religion and we set up an appointment. Like this one guy we met on Saturday. We were trying a family that said to come back but wasn’t there when this black guy came down the stairs and started talking to us asking what religion we were and what we believed. He was really excited about God he said and was looking for a church so we gave him a card and set up a time to come back. When I handed him a card he looked at it and said strike one. Ha he went on to explain that he thought Jesus was brown and that the picture wasn’t a good representation of him but he said we didn’t paint it so it was ok. I’m a little curious as to how he’s going to turn out. But then the next day we were out and we ran into his cousin down the street and he said he was going to be at the appointment too since his cousin was going. His cousin actually gave him the card we gave him and was talking about us so I’m excited to teach him.

The Reyes family is great except for the fact that they like Fords and I like Chevy and they disgraced me by getting me a small bottle of pure Pennsylvania Maple Syrup. So if you could send me a bottle of rodgers golden syrup that would be nice so I can show what real maple is ha.

If you see the Lows again tell them I say hi. But the work here is going slowly but surly and we hope to see great things soon the ward is starting to get a bit more involved so were excited. Love you all and hope to hear from you soon.

Love Elder Kartchner
